Anunță publicarea volumului

Georges SANDULESCO:

Press Release
Bucharest, 23 August 2011

Contemporary Literature Press,
under The University of Bucharest, in permanent conjunction
with The British Council, and The Romanian Cultural Institute,

Announces the publication of

Georges SANDULESCO,
The Chemistry Researcher (1896-1978). Collected Papers.

edited in facsimile by C. George Sandulescu
(ISBN 978-606-8366-02-9).

At the age of only twenty-six, Georges Sandulesco graduated from the Sorbonne, in the fields of General Chemistry, Applied Chemistry and Biological Chemistry. The year of his graduation was 1922. After the First World War, this particular year was the time of great achievements in all fields, be they humanistic or scientific.

Born in Romania, he did all his hormone discoveries in Paris between 1925 and 1940. In 1937 he was invited to join the Romanian Academy of Sciences.

His Collected Papers contain ten communications, all published by the Académie des sciences de Paris, in their standard publication, entitled Comptes rendus. The outcome of all this research materialized in the issuing of eleven Patents, registered in the following three different countries: France, Germany and the United States, before the Second World War. The international impact was more than considerable at the time, on account of the fact that Georges Sandulesco was first in the world to point to the existence of a second sexual hormone (SEE the attached relevant press cuttings).

His scientific work, his personal documents and his photographs, published here, can only hint at who Georges Sandulesco was.

This volume is more than a mere memento. It aims at bringing this particular Romanian researcher of major international status back to where he belongs by birth and scientific achievement. He refused all communication with his native Romania between the years 1940 and the time of his death, in 1978: the reason was simple – in his thinking, both German rule in the war years, and Soviet monitoring in the postwar years had definitively erased his own country out of any physical existence. His position is not unlike that taken publicly in the same period and for the same reasons by the well known Paris playwright Eugène Ionesco, membre de l’Académie Française.

To conclude: he had made all his discoveries in Paris. Subsequently, they have spread all over the world. Now, 33 years after his death, it is high time the Romanian Academy of 2011 and all Romanian endocrinologists turn their attention again to the research impact created world-wide by his findings in the solid seventy years which have passed.

It is high time that his own country gives him his due today, or not at all.

Georges SANDULESCO, The Chemistry Researcher is available for consultation and downloading as from 23 August 2011 on the following internet address:
