The History of English Literature, 100 Years Ago.

Contemporary Literature Press, which focuses on the study of the English language through literature, is now publishing two histories of English literature that are more than 100 years old.
All important histories have always been written from OUTSIDE, never from the INSIDE of the culture they sum up. The best histories of English literature have been written by non-English authors. We are now publishing two such books, both coming from Germany.
This is not unlike the Grammars of the English language: remember Otto Jespersen, A Modern English Grammar on Historical Principles in seven parts (1909-1949); Etsko Kruisinga, A Handbook of Present-Day English (1909-1932); Hendrik Poutsma, A Grammar of Modern English in five volumes (1904-1929); Reinard Zandvoort, A Handbook of English Grammar (1945); Jan Svartvig, Leon Levițchi...
We are, then, publishing these two histories of literature in an attempt to be of use, as Sefton Delmer himself puts it on the cover of his own book, to "schools, universities, and private students." All this material is meant for both classroom and individual use.

The two histories of English Literature, edited by Lidia Vianu, are formally launched on Wednesday 20 November 2013. But they are available for consultation and downloading on receipt of this Press Release, at the following internet addresses:

Este același lucru cu Gramaticile limbii engleze: remember Otto Jespersen, A Modern English Grammar on Historical Principles in seven parts (1909-1949); Etsko Kruisinga, A Handbook of Present-Day English (1909-1932); Hendrik Poutsma, A Grammar of Modern English in five volumes (1904-1929); Reinard Zandvoort, A Handbook of English Grammar (1945); Jan Svartvig, Leon Levițchi...
