Contemporary Literature Press is publishing in both English and Romanian Gelu Vlașin's debut book of poetry, which first appeared in Romania in the year 1999. This apparently violent book about psychiatric disorders actually diagnoses Romanian reality after the fall of communism. The poet describes a world that young readers today can relate to.
Love is not at all what this book is about, in spite of the fact that it haunts the poems. Gelu Vlașin sees and describes a world in which both young sensibility and understanding are at a loss. We are publishing his poems mainly in order to signal the beginning of a poetic age which mixes Hamlet's alleged madness with Ophelia's more than real tragedy.
Vlașin—who came out of communism at the age of 23—writes texts which seem to be more than just literature. He makes us wonder how much has survived of what we once used to call POETRY.

Contemporary Literature Press publică în limbile engleză și română volumul de debut al poetului Gelu Vlașin—volum publicat în limba română în anul 1999. Această carte, aparent violentă, despre psihiatrie definește de fapt starea de spirit a României după căderea comunismului. Lumea descrisă de poet este familiară tinerilor cititori din anul 2015.
Iubirea pare să bântuie poemele, dar, în realitate, versurile nu ne vorbesc despre ea. Poemele lui Gelu Vlașin caută să descrie o lume în care sensibilitatea și înțelegerea celor tineri sunt în derută. Am ales să traducem și să publicăm aceste versuri ca un semnal de alarmă în aceste vremuri în care se amestecă falsa nebunie a lui Hamlet cu tragedia foarte adevărată a Ofeliei.
Versurile lui Vlașin sunt și nu sunt literatură. Debutul acestui poet, născut în anul 1966 și ieșit din comunism la 23 de ani, ne face să ne întrebăm dacă POEZIA a supraviețuit trecerii României la alt timp istoric.
